CLASSLINES
For those interested in person-to-person combat, there are several paths to take in fighting style. These paths are referred to as Classlines, and each Classline follows a route of progression as the character becomes more proficient.
Your first Classline is initially selected in your join form -- but if you are undecided, you have up to three updates from your acceptance date to choose an initial Classline. Simply state your chosen Classline in your update before your deadline. At the end of the three update period, a Classline must be selected.
Classlines go through ranks -- Novice Rank, Intermediate Rank, and Advanced Rank (casually known as N-Rank, I-Rank, and A-Rank, respectively). Each rank compromises of slots, which give the chance to get an ability (buying an ability). Some slots do not offer the opportunity to get an ability.
After selecting your initial Classline, you may only buy abilities if you have the rank's required weapon(s) in your possession. It must be equipped at the time of buying the ability.
When your character levels up, your rank levels up. You move up one slot per one character level. When you unlock a slot, this allows the opportunity to spend AP on the type of ability that corresponds with the unlocked slot (if applicable).
You are not required to buy a slot's ability at the time of unlocking the slot. You can move up as many ranks as you like without buying a single ability -- unlocking a slot and buying a slot are two separate entities.
You are allowed a maximum of two Classlines, but you may only pursue one Classline at any given time. This means that you cannot level up in both Classlines simultaneously.
You can choose your secondary Classline only when you have finished the Novice Rank of your initial Classline. You state your secondary Classline in your update.
You may freely switch between learning Classline ranks only after completing any preceding rank (Novice --> Intermediate --> Advanced). If you haven't finished learning an entire rank, you may not switch over to learning another Classline.
Switching your Classline before completing a Classline rank will negate any abilities learned during the incomplete rank. In other words, you must finish leveling up a rank before pursuing your other Classline's rank.
